Nearly 1 in 4 households in Rhode Island are experiencing food insecurity

Meanwhile, up to 40% of food feeds landfills, accounting for the largest category of material occupying municipal landfills. Dollars spent on water, energy and labor invested to produce discarded food goes to waste, and climate change imposes threats to our ocean, air, economy and health.

RLCRI bridges the gap between food excess and insecurity

WE INVITE NONPROFITS to sign up as RLC Food Recipient Partners, a free service. This includes shelters, soup kitchens, pantries, supportive housing and others that provide necessary food assistance for people with zero or low income of all ages, races, cultures and religions.

WE ENCOURAGE BUSINESSES to partner with RLC to donate their excess food. This includes restaurants, cafes, commercial kitchens (i.e. hotels, schools, hospitals), businesses hosting catered lunches, venues, wedding and event caterers, small and large markets, etc.

WE INSPIRE VOLUNTEERISM by hosting volunteer opportunities for one-time, sporadic or recurring Rescue Events, morning until night, 365 days a year. Volunteering for an average of one hour produces tangible impact, providing a sense of fulfillment, accomplishment and engagement in community service among our Volunteer Rescuers.

Who we work with

Many families are very happy tonight. The food you delivered went to community families - which they always get excited for. Some people cry with gratitude...You’re doing great work...Thank you, again.
